Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

Valentine

So now it’s Valentine, time passes by so quickly. I hope everyone will spend a good day with your loved ones. Well as before I have nothing mush to say, so I’ll write something about history of Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is an old tradition thought to have originated from a Roman Festival known as Lupercalia. It was held on February 15 as a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture. During the celebrations boys would draw names of girls from a box and the pair would be partners during the festival. These matches often led to marriage.

The festival survived the initial rise of Christianity but was outlawed at the end of the 5th century when Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St Valentine’s Day.

Well about the first St. Valentine, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. There is one idea that he was a priest from Rome who served in the 3rd century. Emperor Claudius II banned marriage when he decided that single men made better soldiers and when Valentine felt this was unfair he broke the rules and arranged marriages in secret. But when the emperor found out he was thrown in jail and sentenced to death.

There are other legends that suggest he may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were beaten and tortured.

Another idea is that when he was sent to prison, he sent a letter to a young girl he had fallen in love with and signed it “From your Valentine”. It’s thought this was the first ever Valentine’s Day greeting.

Some believe that Valentine’s Day’s is celebrated mid-February to mark the anniversary of St Valentine’s death. It’s thought to have happened in the middle of the month around 270 AD. Others maintain that the Christian church decided to place St Valentine’s feast day at this time of the year in an effort to ‘Christianise’ the pagan festival of Lupercalia.

Roses have been the symbol of love since the early 1700s when Charles II of Sweden brought the Persian poetical art known as the “language of flowers” to Europe. Throughout the 18th century, ladies loved their floral dictionaries, which listed the symbolic meanings of different flowers. The red rose was believed to be the flower favoured by Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love, and has therefore come to represent that.

To-morrow is Saint Valentine’s day,
All in the morning betime,
And I a maid at your window,
To be your Valentine.
Then up he rose, and donn’d his clothes,
And dupp’d the chamber-door;
Let in the maid, that out a maid
Never departed more.

— William Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act IV, Scene 5
And new chapter will be out, at the end of the day… probably… =_=;
So that’s it! have a Happy Valentine’s everyone!

Happy Lunar New Year 2016!!!

Chinese New Year

So it’s the new years to Chinese! I’m not Chinese so well, I don’t get to celebrate anything or get any red packets… or that week long holidays, I’m sooo jealous >~<!

Anyway I don’t really have anything to say other than wishing you all new year… but since It’d be such waste of a post if I left it like this, I’ll write something about the mythology of Chinese zodiac.

As you all know, this year is known to be the year of monkey. And besides monkey, there’s rooster, dog, pig, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake and horse, the 12 animals accordingly.

Well there’re lot’s of stories how these animal years came to be (if you try searching them) but the most popular one is…

Zodiac

Jade Emperor invited the entire animal kingdom to partake in a tremendous race. The first 12 animals able to cross the river, would be assigned to a year of the Chinese zodiac system in order of appearance. All the animals were very excited and the news spread rapidly. On the day of the race all the animals gathered at the bank of the river. Rat, although the smallest animal in the zodiac system, won the race. Rat, was very small and not a good swimmer at all, used his brain and played a little trick in order to actually get the first place. He convinced Ox that together they would have a better chance of winning, saying that Ox being very strong, and Rat gifted by a marvelous sight would be a perfect team. So, Rat hopped on the back of Ox. When they neared the other side of the river however, Rat quickly jumped ahead and was named first animal of the Chinese zodiac, followed by Ox, who came in second.

Tiger claimed third prize. Although it was difficult to cross the river, Tiger made it thanks to his strength. Following closely was Rabbit, who had crossed the river by jumping from one stone to the other. Dragon, who was expected to finish first, had to stop to make rain to help all the creatures on earth and came in fifth place. Then, a galloping sound was heard and Horse arrived. Snake, hidden in the hoof of Horse, suddenly appeared, scared Horse and was named 6th animal. Horse ended up being 7th. After that, , Goat, Monkey and Rooster reached the shore. By working together they were able to cross the river. Very satisfied by this teamwork, the Jade Emperor assigned Goat as the 8th animal of the cycle, Monkey as the 9th and Rooster as the 10th.

Dog became the 11th animal, since he couldn’t resist to play a little bit longer in the river before crossing it. Finally, the last to arrive was Pig. He got hungry during the race and stopped to grab a quick bite, but fell asleep afterwards. And this is how the Chinese zodiac was formed.

And Cat was excluded, why? well it’s also because one of Rat’s schemes. It goes like this, Cat and Rat were the best of friends, the kind of friends that spends almost every waking hour together. Both were very excited about the news of the great race and immediately started to make plans to cross the river.

Cat and Rat were the best of friends, the kind of friends that spends almost every waking hour together. Both were very excited about the news of the great race and immediately started to make plans to cross the river. On the day of the race, Cat wanted to take a little nap before partaking in the race, since it would ask a lot of effort and would therefore be very exhausting. Winning this race, however, was the only thing Rat could think about. Instead of waking up Cat, Rat silently sneaked out and spurred to the shore of the river. After enjoying his splendid nap in the sun, Cat woke up to discover the race was already over and Rat had finished first. He was devastated and furious at the same time and swore to hate Rat forever.

And that’s it! Enjoy!

I’m really sorry! >_<

sorry

I am really really really sorry everyone! Lot’s of unexpected and unfortunate things happened to me last month, so I wasn’t in the right mood to continue translate nor read any novels. Actually my last month was kinda like one of these depressing BE novels. Friends betraying you, breaking up with your bf, screwing up the exams, getting in to a huuuge fight with your bro (well this one’s pretty normal… I guess) etc etc. What sucks the most is, when it happens altogether, I don’t even have tears to cry… or should I say, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry 😛

I was kinda depressed for last few days, spend time mostly sleeping and playing games, vegetable stealing or whatever (actually this game called FarmVille 2 is pretty interesting… for now at least) talking about games, now I really want to cry. Since now I’m not talking with both my game sources >.> I missed the division’s beta T^T

Anyway now that I’m all better, I’ll continue translating but I’m sorry to have broken my promise. There’ll be weekly releases but I can’t be sure if I’ll be able to release them on Sunday. I’ve got lot of catching up to do, in both novels and studies, plus there’s Chinese course’s final exam. But fear not, I’ll still translate!

So… that’s all for my excuses, feel free for the trash-talking and bad-mouthing 🙂

If I Have You, What More Could I Ask For In This Life? (如若有你一生何求 [医生,一生何求]) : Chapter 3

Chapter 3

C3

Yisheng led her father to a small hotel booked a room for them. After they tidied up their luggage, Yisheng turned to her father, picking up his clothes said, “Dad, you go take a shower first”.

Ye Tianming held his daughter, earnestly looking at her said, “I asked your uncle Song to help me buy our old house back. And as for the money uncle Song owed me some a while back so it won’t be a problem. Us, father and daughter together, we can go back to our old place, what do you say?”

Yisheng withdrew her hand, tuned away appearing to be busy, “Dad do you still think there’s a need for us to stay in this town anymore?”

“Of course there is, although this is still a small town, this is where I first met your mother, got to know to know each other, fell in love with each other and gave birth to you, Yisheng. If it weren’t for me being muddled at that time, then it wouldn’t have….” thinking back at how their family went bankrupt after corruption case, Ye Tianming let down a heavy sigh, lowering his head.

Yisheng walked towards her father, hugging him from the behind, “You shouldn’t think about those things anymore, for six whole years this daughter have been very unfilial to you, haven’t even bothered to visit you. To tell you the truth, at first I too blamed you, but after thinking things through I realized that Dad did all that because of Mom’s illness”

“Hey!” Ye Tianming couldn’t help but laugh at himself, how absurd of him to recall all these sad things again. “Yisheng, don’t you want to stay here?”

“No, I don’t want to” to her this little town held many cruel memories, if she were to stay here again she’ll not be able to return to her peaceful life again”.

“But if father still wish to stay, then you can stay. I’ll go back to B city, it’s fairly close and it would only take two or so hours for one trip from here. And it’s a prefecture level city, so it’ll be easy to find place to work too”.

“Are you really okay with being alone like this?” Ye Tianming’s eyes carried a hint of concern.

Yisheng tried to console him, “My senior is there too. He’s the one  took care of me from back then, helped me a lot too. Also, this time he helped me to take up a internship at there, using his connections. If work hard, I might be able to become a resident there”.

Ye Tianming let out another sigh, patting his daughters hands that weren’t fragile nor delicate as they were once before, a sudden sadness gushed through him.

“Dad, it’s all fine” Yisheng buried her face in his back, faintly closing her eyes, thought about her hazy future, she felt at loss. She couldn’t see it, she couldn’t see the other side, only had her blind beliefs”

As long as I’m alive, it’ll all be fine.

________________________________

The means and methods of Song Zheng were quite capable, in no more than three short days he was able to buy back Ye family’s old house. Even Song Zheng himself couldn’t help but laugh, said, “It was nice to talk to the previous owner, he promised to pay seven years of installments too, still really haven’t had such good deal before”.

Ye Tianming looked at the house he didn’t see for six years, also followed in laughing. “To buy this house, like a collection, still same as before”.

Song Zheng  said with a smile, “It was good, to help you take care of this house all these years”

Ye Tianming happily smiled. To live in this old house again, Yisheng  looked around to see traces of herself left there, the eventful days she spent in this house, every corner and every item was deeply engraved in her mind.

Those birthday parties, those fun times, their simple yet exaggerative actions, now it all seemed things that can not put in to words, only leaving behind a taste of pitiful regret. And yet those were, truly the most carefree days of her life.

After few year of remolding it’ll be as father wishes, it almost didn’t have any need to be repaired, except for some changes in furnitures. And so they quickly moved back to the old house, this was not within Yisheng’s expectations at all.

That night, after settling back in her old room, Yisheng received a massage, it was from Song Anchen, “Are you asleep?”

Yisheng replied, “I’m just lying down on the bed”

Then Song Anchen called her. Seeing him calling, she was somewhat hesitant to answer the phone right away. A somewhat (unfamiliar) voice came through, “Hello”

“Still not sleeping? it’s 1 o’clock already” Song Anchen’s voice sounded through the mobile phone. Yisheng blinked, her brain seem to have stopped working for a moment, not sleeping? she’d love to sleep when it’s time to sleep, who’s the one bothering her in the middle of the night. Moreover he took a phone call just to ask this?

“I was sleeping till now, when certain someone’s massage woke me up” Yisheng’s replied in an indifferent tone. Then there was a moment of awkward silence, it took a while before Song Anchen finally said, “Good night, Yisheng”

Yisheng opened her mouth to say something, then closed back again. But she didn’t hang up the phone, neither did he, the awkward silence continued to linger between them. After taking a deep breath to calm herself, Yisheng took the initiative to and hung up first. Curling up on the bed, she closed her eyes.

If it was her from six years ago, then she might’ve took this hind and wouldn’t have hung up on him like that. But now, she must not delude herself such fantasies. Song Anchen and her… was merely childhood friends, nothing more, she didn’t have the freedom for those imaginations anymore.

________________________________

Yisheng’s father was somewhat worried to leave his daughter with her senior brother alone, wanted to tag along. But Yisheng denied him, she was no longer the pampered she was once before, those few years of grinding added more experience to her life. Seeing her, appearing so calm and composed, Ye Tianming felt relieved and decided to let her go alone.

Yisheng carried her heavy luggage to station with her, directly went to buy a ticket to the train headed to B city. All she wanted was to leave this place soon, to break away from those painful times.

Yan Heng, Yisheng’s senior brother, they were both on same university but he majored clinical science. She knew him for almost three years. They first met when she was still a freshmen at university, he was already at hi fourth year then. Due to both being from the same hometown, they got to know each other pretty easily.

Yan Heng was very simple and a gentle person. Although they were on different majors, somehow they both understood each other vey well, making them eventually harbor good impressions of each other.

Yisheng was quite introverted and withdrawn back then. By being with her to hear her sorrows, Yan Heng helped her get through the haziest period of her life. So it was only natural for him to know a lot about her, about her life, including Song Anchen. It was quite clear that his concern for her was way past being just her senior. But as for her, she had met with people more caring in her life.

They were merely together for a year, on his fourth year he applied for internship in city B. They only rarely met each other at university, but this distance never had any effect on their relationship, they were still good friends.

Actually Yisheng once suspected that he had feelings for her, but she didn’t dare to make rash assumptions, afraid that it might lead to misunderstandings between them. Fortunately for her, she didn’t bother making guesses that time because he found a girlfriend soon after, which she was really glad to know.

After she got off the train, she carried herself with her heavy luggage, out of the station. Lifting her head up Yisheng’s eyes caught the image of a good looking man, leisurely leaning on a car while smiling at her. Two dimples on each corner of his mouth, slight smile revealing fine line of teeth, familiar figure made her surprised.

He walked up to her saying, “Welcome, my little junior”

“How come you’re here?” I already said I’ll come to find you. Yisheng pushed her luggage, advancing step by step out of the station.

Yan Heng reached out to her, letting out a slight chuckle, lifted her luggage releasing her hand from it. “You were planing to carry all these things all the way to the hospital alone?”

“Like you care!” Yisheng jokingly said, while pouting like a spoiled child, provoking Yan Heng to laugh out loud. “How could I dare to our famous hot-headed little junior”

Yisheng chuckled, slowly following him to the car parked beside the road, After clearly seeing the car he was heading to, she was startled “Ah!” it was an Audi Q7. She stood there staring blankly at him for a while, feeling somewhat stumped for words. Not missing the chance to tease him she said, “Oh, senior’s so rich now, huh? riding on such millions”

Yan Heng only smiled a little, putting her luggage on te trunk, he went to front and opened the door to get in. After starting the car, he turned towards her, “Get in”. Looking at him dazedly, she was startled awake by his voice, while getting on the car she heard him say, “This, my father bought it for me”

Indeed, Yisheng already expected this, he was the son of a high class family after all, they had the economic conditions to supply their son with millions worth houses and vehicles, so as to marry a matching wife. Yan Heng’s family conditions were that good. Yisheng laughed, “It looks like seniors going to marry sister-in-law soon?”

Yan Heng looked distracted for a moment, followed soon after with a light laugh, “I don’t even have a girlfriend, so how am I suppose to get married?”

“Ah! you broke up with sister-in-law?” Yisheng was alarmed.

Yan Heng started the car, stepped on the accelerator, car steadily moved forward. Yan Heng leaned to the side with a smiling expression on his face, “Silly girl, you always take things too seriously, you know your seniors requirements are very high, trying to find the suitable one is not that easy”

Yisheng blinked, staring at him not knowing whether to laugh or cry, was this suppose to be a joke?

Seeing her stare Yan Heng felt a little embarrassed. “Yisheng, what about you? got yourself a boyfriend yet?”

Yisheng withdrew her gaze after a quick glare, “You know me, I’m not heading that way”

“Still for that toy horse?”

Yisheng didn’t reply to him, rather shifted her gaze outside the car, towards the bustling B city. A sub provincial city really is very different, tall buildings rising up one after another, like in a mountain range, mountains raising up one after another.

“I’m transferred to B city’s third affiliated hospital” Yan Heng said while turning to her, “No idea if you also like to go there?”

“Can I really?”

“Well, you’ve got pretty good luck, third hospital renovated all-around, have good amount of capable doctors and attendants to run around, and they directly agreed for the internship after going through your profile” Yan Heng suddenly winked at her saying, “Or maybe it’s just that I have a great charisma”

“Cocky!” Yisheng sneered. She felt really happy, she didn’t expect for everything to turn out so well, perhaps heavens are helping her.

Yan Heng stopped the car beside a community, then two got out of the car, heading towards a house.

“This is the one, it has a annual rent, I paid for the first year, you’ll have to figure things out for later ones”

Yisheng gathered her hands in gratitude, “Senior is really a very capable adult”

Yan Heng reached out to scratch her head out of habit, “You… ah”

Yisheng gently chuckled, appearing extremely silly. There was hint of tenderness in Yan Heng’s eyes when he looked at her. He only wanted for her to be happy, from the moment he first saw that petite and frail person, slowly walking step by step, dragging that heavy luggage with her, until now he always wished for her to be happy and just like then step by step to forget the fact that he was her senior, only as this senior.

My Ramblings: Part 1

孤芳不自赏 A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated (Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang) – 风弄 (HE)孤芳不自赏 A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated (Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang) – 风弄 (HE)

Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang is my first and favorite web novel so far, technically it’s not exactly the first since I’ve been reading some light novels before but they’re Japanese and this is Chinese (plus there’s a difference between light novels and web novels, so this novel being my ‘first’ is justified)

After reading the first volume on CKM Scans, I waited so so sooo much for the second volume and now it’s also released. At first I didn’t know about Shushengbar or these on-going Chinese romance novel translations, so I lurked around Xianxia and Wuxia novel translations for some time. And read quite a lot of them, such as Coilling Dragon, Stellar Transformations etc. etc. It was quite fun and I still read some of them. But, I have this attraction to the novels with female protagonists and such so…

Anyway the point is this novel’s  the reason that I’m so obsessed with C-novels now (I don’t about you guys but I love love love this novel). First of all I love Ping Ting (Female lead), and I love the plot and the flaw of story, and other character along with Bei Jie (Male Lead). And OMG, they’re a match made in heavens.

Story goes on a ancient background with kingdoms, wars, power struggles and such. Bai Ping Ting is the military adviser (so cool, right?) of one country while Chu Bei Jie is the duke of the other country. They both have extremely cunning minds and very strong personalities. Their fist meeting is quite unexpected but both of them are drawn to each other, no matter how they teared apart one always come looking for the other, either it’s Bei Jie or Ping Ting. And writing style of the story draws us readers towards them, making us shed tears for them each time break apart (T.T), even though we know they’ll eventually get back together. Another thing is that no matter how many war strategies or plots there is, it never gets boring. Actually it’s really interesting since it’s Ping Ting’s plans and Bei Jie’s battles.

This novel is one of the reasons that inspired me to learn Chinese and try translating novels. As Mahouka inspired me to learn Japanese. (After Chinese I’m planing on trying Korean). I don’t know of your preferences but this novel is really worth the read. So if there’s someone looking for a good novel to read, I recommend this one.

You can find the English translations of first and second volumes on CKM Scans. And if you want read more reviews, visit Shushengbar.

BTW Ping Ting is the second best heroine on my list, first one is Qing Ju and third one is Xiao Susu. (^_^)

That’s all, have a nice read everyone!

Chapter 2

“Sushi ah sushi, sweet and smooth sushi…”

Mu Han Xia was humming a tune of a popular song, while kneading the sushi and placing it on a saucer.

It was still early in the morning, jewels on the top shelf were glittering through the bright sunlight, since there were not many customers yet, supermarket  seemed very empty and quiet.

Mu Han Xia wore the red colored short sales uniform,  leisurely standing beside the counter, picking out some sushi that seemed most beautiful from the rest. After arranging the sushi in order, she took a snapshot of it.

In case of photograph technology, although her mobile’s camera quality was quite ordinary, the pictures she took were always praised by others.

Shadow cast by the bright sunlight made the background seem a little fuzzy, each and every rice grain seemed sparkling and plump, the green colored seaweeds and the red colored fish, the dish was quite beautiful. She sent the photo to her friend circle, also added some words above: “Salmon sushi with tuna rolls, soak in with fragrance, flavor of the  day – by Mu Han Xia”

Bunch of people started commenting right away.

High school classmate A: “quite beautiful!”

High school classmate B: “Really hateful, It’s so early in the morning and I’m still on subway rushing to work, plus I didn’t get to have any breakfast either!”

High school classmate C: “Another one of Mu Han Xia’s arts, speechless”

Cosmetics sales clerk: “Xia Xia, it must be really good!”

Meat section’s shop assistant: “Ha ha, Pork is the way of the king!”

Holding the phone, Mu Han Xia leaned against the counter, suddenly He Jing passed by carrying two big Durian in both hands. She was the fruit section sales clerk, taking  a deep breath threw the fruits in her hands at the top shelf, moving closer to Mu Han Xia, muttered, “You know, even poor can be happy!”

Mu Han Xia lowered her mobile phone, “Could it be that I can not be happy since I’m poor?”

He Jing sneered, sweeping a glance at those beautifully arranged sushi, she couldn’t help but sigh, “What are you doing ah? always changing sections here”

Mu Han Xia replied firm face, “don’t you know, my professional goal is to grasp all the 72 skills of the supermarket and… “

“Screw you!” He Jing interrupted, holding back the laugh, lowered her voice to say, “You think I don’t know that you want crawl higher, you already got yourself a undergraduate degree right? Plus in Jianchen university. Hmph! You people looking pretty and all, don’t you forget me if you climbed high in the future”

Mu Han Xia felt embarrassed, “But you know, as they say, the wife who shared husbands hardships must never be ignored…”

Han Jing burst away, after giving her a slap on the head.

The general manager of Jiancheng 2nd street Yue Ya supermarket, was called Meng Gang. 35 years old, single and divorced. He always came to work awfully early, begin supervising daily operations of the supermarket. Also he oftenly works till late in the night, finishing the work together with other employees. Although no one dare to talk with him, but they all know that this supermarket’s income ranked first in central China for many years, under his leadership.

Today, Meng Gang called supervising managers of every section for the weekly regular meeting. Morning sunshine was still bright and warm, everyone sat around the table in the big conference room. Meng Gang sat on the middle seat, tweaking a cigarette between his fingers. Sunlight fell behind him, making his features appear neat and clean and he seemed taller, this made him look uninhibited and imposing.

Originally atmosphere around the conference room was solemn and serene, but when marketing manager made his statement, some started showing faint smiles.

Because marketing manager bought over some news, their rival Yong Zheng supermarket chairman’s daughter, marketing director Chen Wei, had encountered an accident, although not life threatening , yet there was severe injuries.

“Yong Zheng just announced to open a new store, within 5 km to ours, however marketing director who was in charge of the new shop preparations had met with a traffic accident” director had an indifferent expression whilst his speech, “it seems their new shop is going o be postponed”

Purchasing section manager with a fiery temper sneered and said, “Frankly, I got no sympathy for them, since we’re doing well in here, seeing our good performance here Yong Zheng  wants to open up a new shop across to us, plus to steal our business here, serves them right!”

Everyone was gathering around the lively discussion, rejoicing at others misfortune. Meng Gang sat in the middle, although he hadn’t spoken or joined in on the topic, yet he wasn’t someone merciful nor kind. Hearing the conversations before him, occasionally his mouth would curve upwards, forming in to a slight smile.

“Chief Meng” marketing manager seemed to be thinking about something before he said, “I heard that when this accident happened, there was someone together with Chen Wei, also that person seem to be a friend of hers from US, coming back here to help her with their new operations”

“From US?” someone asked.

“He appears to be a friend from University, a young man over 20”

“Oh…” someone laughed, turned to Meng Gang, “Chief Meng, it seeds the young miss brought over a friend from college before stepping in to the battle, Yong Zheng played a bad card on this round”

Everyone laughed in unison at the ridicule, Meng Gang also showed a faint smile before saying, “Everyone, whoever it is we shouldn’t let our guard down this early. Yong Zheng always operated steadily, a shop they just opened recently on the other town showed some good performance. They’re always well prepared when they open up new shops, ah that’s right! That friend of Chen Wei’s, what was his name?”

Marketing manager thought for a bit and answered, “Something like.. Lin Mo Chen?”

_________________________

It was almost noon, after sending off a customer, Mu Han Xia started to doze off behind the counter.

Last night was terrible, her feeling sleepy was completely natural. There was no one near her so taking advantage of the surroundings, she let out a big yawn, closing the eyes full of tears.

After a while her head drooped, jerked down making her suddenly wake up.  She looked around with half opened eyes, wanting to go back to sleep. But glancing over the raw of refrigerators, her eyes caught Meng Gang standing there with his assistants.

Mu Han Xia sobered up at once, straightened her back sitting upright. Reached out to arrange sushi in the sales counter with a solemn face. It was as if the one who was dozing behind the counter a moment ago, was entirely different person.

She didn’t raise her head, merely felt him on looking at this direction. When she raised her eyes, they were already gone.

Mu Han Xia sighed in relief. Thinking to herself, Meng Gang patrols around the shop everyday, and there’re many attendants on the sales counter maybe he didn’t see her in here.

Not long after that, result came with Meng Gang’s assistant Xiao Chen’s return. Standing behind the counter with a pleasant smile he said, “Mu Han Xia, chief Meng called you to his office”.

The offices of the executives members were at the upstairs of the supermarket. And Meng Gang’s office was at the end of the forth floor.

This is not the first time Mu Han Xia coming here.

It was 3 years ago, when she was first recruited to this supermarket as a shop assistant, along with 20 other people, yet Meng Gang only summoned her here. Then till now, Meng Gang’s appearance almost didn’t change at all. Crew cut hair, tall build, short sleeved shirt along with trousers, wearing a good wrist watch. His firm and stiff face as well and fingers pressing a cigarette between them.

Mu Han Xia still remember the brief words he said to her that day, “Little girl, I saw your resume. Although you only got your high school diploma, it was the sixth best in whole city. Work well here! then you’ll have many opportunities in the future”

Meng Gang only graduated from middle school, without any background to support him, made it all the way here through hard work while relying only on himself. From being a supermarket shop assistant crawled up to a staff member, supervisor, manager… and finally became the director of this supermarket.

In this supermarket, he is the goal many people struggling to achieve.

Same was for Mu Han Xia.

Mu Han Xia gently pushed open the door, raising her eyes to see Meng Gang sitting behind the desk, the water pump of the gold fish tank next to him made a regular sound. He was holding a cup of tea, inside the room had the fragrant smell of the tea mixed with faint smell of cigarettes. Seeing Mu Han Xia knocking the door before coming in, he smiled, “Sit”

Mu Han Xia sat down feeling a little embarrassed, thinking about her snoozing episode, she assumed that it was unlikely for big boss to summon her upstairs for this kind of small matter. For such a thing, letting her supervisor reprimand her was enough.

Her heart beat  accelerated a little.

Meng Gang finally opened his mouth to ask, “didn’t sleep well last night?”

His voice sounded mild and indifferent, furthermore his face carried a slight smile, without a meaning to reproach. Mu Han Xia’s face turned red, clear distinct sound constantly ran through her ears, lowering her head softly replied, “It’ll not happen again”.

She was wearing the red uniform, she had took off her cap since she had to go to the upstairs to meet Meng Gang, revealing the thick hair bounded up to a pony tail. Maybe because she had walked fast on the way here or maybe because of the uneasy heart, her forehead soaked with a thin layer of sweat. With a little moist on the face and neck, her original pale white skin seemed ivory, highlighting the little shade of red on her face. As she was lowering her head, her usual dark pair of eyes hung low eyelashes appeared dense and long. Similarly the pale white hands falling to one side, grasped lightly in to a fist.

After a while she heard Meng Gang say, “Don’t be nervous, this one time is not to blame, pay attention more next time”

“Thank you chief Meng!” corners of her mouth slyly curved upwards and immediately bent down again, raising her head Mu Han Xia turned her solemn face at him, “Chief Meng called me for…”

Meng Gang fixed his gaze at her, “you got your undergraduate diploma?”

Mu Han Xia embarrassed smiled, “En, finally got it few days ago”

Also smiling Meng Gang slowly raised his tea cup up to his mouth, “So what’re your plans for the future?”

Mu Han Xia looking at his expression replied, “I had applied for Human resources department  before, thought to go for marketing section to work…”

“I have already approved it”

Mu Han Xia stared blankly, then suddenly felt a surge of joy filling her. Never mind a little bit of hard work, to be successful in such a short amount of time, her heart filled with happiness.

“Chief Meng, I…” bowed deeply towards him, “Thank you, thank you”

“Look at your usually upright mouth today, stuttering and all?” looking at her deeply, he too revealed a smiling expression. Meng Gang nodded towards her, “Good job, little girl!”

Mu Han Xia was beaming with joy, yet opened her mouth saying , “Chief Meng, I’m already 22, I’m not a little girl anymore”

He said while laughing, “You’re so young, still saying not a little girl in front of me?”

One month later…

Since the task at hand requires manufacturing division once again, they have been very busy recently. Therefore Mu Han Xia had to stand in at supermarket again for few days.

It was a sunny and peaceful morning. For the past few days after Mu Han Xia took over pastries sales counter, it had been quite leisurely period, only she was not the one to stay idle.Soon she begun to learn how to make cookies, awfully fast.

There was very few customers at the supermarket at that time. Loudspeaker above her head was playing Eason Chan’s <<10 years>> , Mu Han Xia followed the lyrics with softly humming . Her singing was not very pleasant to the ear, in Han Jing’s words, “It resembles to a child who can not find the right melody”

Glass in front of the sales counter reflected the falling warm sunlight, dense fragrance of the slightly warmed grills blew in to her nose. Bending over Mu Han Xia picked up the finely baked cookies one by one, placing them on a dish, she started to sing in a low voice, “Ten years ago, I did not know you, you didn’t belong to me”

Just then she noticed a pair of long straight legs standing perfectly still before the counter.

Glancing over, she saw a man wearing a suit with leather shoes standing there, perfectly still.

Mu Han Xia was still arranging the cookies, putting them aside she slowly got up. Cheerfully asked, “Sir, What do you need, these are freshly baked cookies, want to give them a try?”

The cookies she just earned to bake may have looked a little plain and square shaped, still the flavor was pretty good.

“Such ugly biscuits, would it poison me?”

Hearing the man speak, Mu Han Xia stared at him blankly. He raised his head, his eyes meeting a pair of deep black eyes.

on the second thought I might translate the third chapter too, since this chapter’s going no where like this =.=

and jollymerry, I’m sorry but I stole your name for this, since I’m not good at translating them.

Something interesting!

It’s already Monday but no new updates…

First of all, I’m really sorry about this. I already translated half of the third chapter and was planing to finish and post it yesterday but… I found something interesting, so I was caught up on it and wasted my precious weekend. But not to worry I didn’t forget to translate it for you guys, so wait for a pleasant surprise everyone (at least for some of you). And I will release the third chapter before next Sunday.

That’s  all! have another boring week

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016!

It’s not Sunday yet but I’m posting my first translation today since it’s 1st day of the new year. So the busy bustling of Christmas and new years are finally over, I’ll be posting new chapters on every Sunday from now on (that is only If nothing unexpected happens).

Actually I was hoping to post one at last Sunday for the Christmas but well… after taking care of two sick people I got sick myself, resulting another horrible Christmas for me. I hope everyone had a enjoyable time… unlike me.

Anyway I have something to say about the novel that I’m translating. Please don’t read if you’re not in to weak willed female leads, because I am not and I really don’t like Yi Sheng (female lead). Put it simply, she is very annoying and I don’t know why I decided to translate this novel (maybe I was sick too then) but since I said I’ll translate this, I will translate this. At least the An Chen (male lead) seems to be a fine guy.

Another thing, as I remember I said before that I’ll try translating Chong Zi, I tried some chapters and it seems fine (hard to understand as usual =.=). So I’m reminding again that it’ll be a very very very slow translation.

Okay, that’s all! Have another healthy wealthy cozy happy New Year and Congratulations, you’re a year older than the last year!

If I Have You, What More Could I Ask For In This Life? (如若有你一生何求 [医生,一生何求]) : Chapter 2

Chapter 2

C2

Lin Ruohan, this person whom Yi Sheng never wanted to even mention in her dreams. This women is like her predestined doom, whenever she shows up, everything that seemed beautiful or fine would be ruined till there’s nothing left.

When Lin Ruohan first appered in her life, she was just a sophomore student taking addmission. Once she entrered the seemingly plain class, she became a flower princess. Her natural jet-black hair that seemed as thick black silk drooping down, snowy white clear skin and her princess-like temperemnt. However most deadliest of them all was the pair of big watery eyes which looked exceptionally pretty.

At that time she was sitting beside Song Anchen, pocked him arm and asked, “Do you think she’s beautiful?”

Song Anchen who was busy solving math at the time was disturbed by Yi Sheng, wasn’t able raise his head, to look at the person entering the class, suddenly alarmed his expression turned ghastly white. Seeing his expression Yi Sheng was puzzeled, pocked at his arm again.

Song Anchen said, “very pretty”

Shouldn’t be that pretty, so much so that he looked as if he saw a ghost, even with such thought, Yi Sheng didn’t really feel happy.

Listening to the Lin Ruohan’s stylish introduction at the stage, she was from capital, excels at dancing, award wining on television, still also able to play piano. The more she heard the more she was depressed with envy. Everything this girl possessed was to be jeloused  about. What about her? apart from her love for the food, there was nothing. She tried learning painting for few year yet that too ended as if trying to figure west and east while being lost in a forest. Unlike Lin Ruohan grade six at piano and awared winner at dancing.

At that time city was not fully developed. The person who came from the capital, plus being both muti-talented and beautiful, needless to say she’ll be in focal point of the whole class. Teacher  assigned her to sit behind Yi Sheng, she who was half a head taller than Yisheng.

The desk-mate of Lin Ruohan was a nerd with face full of pimples, although he does appreciate the legendery beauty, he had his heart set on books, so he didn’t much of a reaction. In contrast to that all the surroundung students, whether it’s girls or boys seemed very excited in get close with her. And Lin Ruohan gave friendly responses to each one them.

See, there’s congeniality and talent and appearence plus with the being a beauty, this pressure was too much for her ah! But this didn’t matter much to Yi Sheng, unfortunately this Lin Ruohan had to fool around her toy horse, Song Ancheng. This made Yisheng quite dejected, and they seemed to be extreamly familiar with each other.

Lin Ruohan poked again at Song Anchen’s back, said, “Big bro Anchen, give me a ride back home on bicycle in evening okay?”

Song Anchen’s face immediately ashened, he turned towards Lin Ruohan, said, “do not call me brother”

Lin Ruohan simply sticks out her tongue, with a cute smile on her face. Yisheng didn’t dare to turn her head, so she could only see Song Anchen expression from the coner of her eyes, impatience. Fot this reason she was happy throughout whole few lessons.

Why was she so happy you ask? Even if this person had so much looks to be the first, also had grades to the first, although ** standard was not of the highest quality, but not warmhearted enough to understand her toyhorse Anchen, wouldn’t she be an idiot if she’s not happy?

(** are as they were on the original, no idea what that means)

Yes, she liked Song Ancheng for a very long time. From the time when they wore small pants and went to kindergarten and back home, while holding hands. Till when highschool, where they mouted on a bicycle to return home, they had always been together. Being together all the time, they eventually became a famous couple in highschool. Although Song Anchen frowns whenever he hear this rumour, he never denied it either, therefore everyone believed that was his tacit approval.Yisheng also wanted to ask, but unable to, since she was afraid it would become akward if asked. Therefore she could only remain by his side as the helpless childhood friend.

( I don’t know what the hell those ** suppose to mean, maybe i got the last sentence wrong)

But now the world of these two childhood sweet hearts was being inturrupted by a third person who kept calling Song Anchen, ‘big brother’ and kept pestering to ride on his bike with him as soon as afternoon classes dissmissed.

Yisheng could only stand to the side looking as if a dimmed light bulb, dipressed. And finally Song Ancheng gave up, agreeing to ride with her, Yisheng felt quite dejected as she slowly dragged herself after them.

Lin Ruohan seemed beaming while sitting behind Song Anchen, happily waved at Yisheng, “Big sisYisheng, hurry and catch up”

From the begining they weren’t that familliar, now she was waving at her calling ‘Big sis’, isn’t this enthusiasm, just an act.Yisheng pursed her lips, reluctantly quickening her phase to follow after them.

When they fianlly reached the crossroads beside the river, Song Anchen stopped his bicycle, turned his head towards Yisheng, “Yisheng, come with me to Ruohan’s place”

‘Ruohan’ such affectionate tone ah! Yisheng shot him a supercilious look, “I don’t have so much free time to play the unwanted thirdwheel”  as soon as she finished speaking she turned back frantically running towards home, not daring to look back again.

The two headed towards Fengshan community, which is of the opposite neighborhood. Actually Yisheng didn’t like going back home, now it didn’t even look like one anymore. Her mother was suffering from a stomach cancer, got hospitalised, father was busy working and with taking care of mother and she was at school for most of the time, so after school Yisheng was the only soul at home.

Yisheng got back home alone, sat on the sofa hugging her knees, feeling somewhat trobled. She looked and the dull empty house, thinking back how the happy pricess from before turned in to such a misfortunate one, one that whom her prince abondened. Yisheng felt distressed lowered her head, silently weeping.

She didn’t know how long she cried, but she has fallen asleep and was woken up by sound of someone knocking the door. When She went to open the door, she saw Song Anchen standing  outside, panting. Seeing him laughing at her Yisheng felt angry, waved her hand to shut the door at his face, which Song Anchen stopped in time.

Yisheng asked, “What do you want?”

Song Anchen gasped for a breath first, “Were you born to get angry?”

“When did you see me get angry? I’m merely tired and I want to sleep, I don’t want to listen to your nonsense right now”

Song Anchen face seemd resigned looking helplessly at her, said, “I’ll be frank, Lin Ruohan may become my future younger sister”

Yisheng pouted looking disdainfully at him, Song Anchen continued, “Meaning my father and her mother are on close terms”

“Oh?” Song uncle’s having a second spring?

Song Anchen gasping for another breath, “Still, I didn’t know you were this stingy” he couldn’t help but smile ans added, “not so angry now, right?”

Yisheng turned around biting her lips, went back to the sofa again. She wanted to get angry but didn’t have a reason to be so. Lifting her eyes towards Song Anchen asked, “Did you finish your assignment yet?” She picked the wrong topic to change to conversaton.

Song Anchen came inside, taking a book from the schoolbag threw it at her, “If you have such an attitude toward studying, beating the exam to be a doctor would be possible”

Yisheng casted a glance at him, happily picking the book thrown to her bowed in worship. Song Anchen was awfully correct with his assignments, it had a high chance of being accurate and being copy his work was pretty good. Actually Yisheng regretted choosing science subjects, she was simply an idiot at those but she had no choice, inorder to get in to a mecal college she had to stake it all.

“Hello, Song Anchen! I even decided not to return home and stay studying after school”

Song Anchen smiled at her “Good, then I would’ve accompanied you”

Song Anchen was quite the competent toy horse, had she not returned home he would keep her company. At noon, two people studying together in classroom, similar as once in the past.

Sitting behind Yisheng, Lin Ruohan bided for a while, not looking for Song Anchen anymore, either knowing herself or being warned by Song Anchen, she tried to call out for him but hesitate each time as she just watched them leaving togther.

Untill the first math test…..

Everyone thought Lin Ruohan was a smart one, but unfortunately she appeared to be a exetreamly idiotic in science subjects. 17 marks for maths, 29 for physics and 36 for chemistry, not suprisingly so these were the lowest grades of the class.

Teacher called for Lin Ruohan about her poor grades. After some sincere talk and heartfelt words by the teacher, their conversation seem to have bear fruit. Actually the outcome was to make study groups for classmates to help each other, on ones with good grades tutor the ones with worst grades. So the first ten places is to tutor the last ten places accordingly. Thus the first of the class Song Anchen was to tutor the first from the bottom, Lin Ruohan.

Yisheng was placed fifth from the bottom and was grouped together with He Jin, fifth of the class.

Since then the two had very few chances to be together again. Also, they had to change the places according to new teaming to be more convienient to help with the studying, so they could only talk on the way back after school. They walked to the bicycle shed and out of the school, all the while Yisheng was silent. When Song Anchen couldn’t take it anymore, broke the silence asking, “How was the class today? He Jin’s work is actually pretty good”

“En”

Yisheng nodded absentmindedly.

Seeing her dejected face Song Anchen titled his head, patting on her head to coax her, “Then what are you so upset about?”

Yisheng, who was unconsiously walking on a straight line with half closed eyes, suddenly jumped up, frightened, abruptly retreated one step back. “Song Anchen, you… what are you doing?”

“See, I told you that you were not happy, so what’s the reason?”

How can she be happy? With these two people being so close whispering to one another and that place, which originally belonged to her being taken away by that women whom she was jealous of, she was so utterly angry.

She muttered, “You men are all the same, hoes before bros*, you all go over the top right after seeing a beauty!” her tone seemed quite blunt, which made Song Anchen stare at her blankly. He didn’t say anything just got on to his bicycle, dropped a word before leaving her*, “Ye Yisheng, you are an unreasonable person”

(hoes before bros – A guy who leaves or forgets his buddies over a girl)

(dropped a word before leaving her – it originally meant ‘shake one’s sleeve and leave’ so I don’t know if I should but I left it as simply ‘leaving after saying something’)

Of course she’s unreasonable, beacourse she’d mad with jealousy.

When niether was willing to yield, this turned out to be a huge quarrel between the two. Because of this cold war, instead of Yisheng, Song Anchen started having meal with Lin Ruohan and the two also went home after school together. And as not to be outdone by them, Yisheng also got close with He Jin on purpose. Even though they was ignored most of the time, Song Anchen would glared back at them when passing by.

School started buzzling with a new rumour: the most handsome boy of the school, Song Anchen broke up with his childhood sweetheart, and went to the embrace of the beauty, Lin Ruohan. And the old sweetheart also found a new love.

As they say, power of the masses was strong indeed, the class went to an uproar with jokes and whispers whenever Song Anchen came to class together with Lin Ruohan, this was also provoked by the bashfulness of the beauty.

When Yisheng had to take it all in without having a place to vent her anger, He Jin also had to chime in with, “They do look good together,  ah?” Yisheng suddenly caught his arm and pinched it hard, He Jin held a sullen face as he knew he was being used. Neither did Yisheng felt happy even with pinching his arm. Song Anchen was watching all this from the side with an unreadable distant expression.

Yisheng was all alone after the break up, felt lonely not having anyone to go back together. So He Jin kindly volunteered to escort the lonely flower back home. When they went to fetch his bicycle, the lovely couple of Lin Ruohan and Song Anchen was there, plus  him smiling at her.

It was as if they were compete strangers, not even glancing as they went on straight ahead, just passed by each other. All along their relationship was like standing on cloud, eventhough they were just next each other, now it seemed as if they were seperated a whole galaxy.

Thier relationship took a turn for the better after when Yisheng’s father, Ye Tian Ming went to Song Anchen’s home for a drink. When Yisheng returned home, she seeing the briefnote her father left behind reluctantly decided to go. Song Anchen was the one who opened the door, he seemed to know that she was coming, leaned on to side and gestured her to go inside. Ye Tian Ming was happy seeing her duagther, beckoned her to come over. He handed her a box, Yisheng looked at her father, baffled. Ye Tian Ming let out a gentle chuckle, “It’s a mobile phone, latest kind, I heard it can take pretty good photos. Old Song gave his son a mobile phone, now I too am giving my daughter a one”

She opened the box to see, it was a extravagant high resolution mobile phone that’s often boasted about in recent magazines. Turning to her father she expressed her gratitude to him, when suddenly her moble phone rang. Startled, she looked down at the screen, she was surprised to see the incoimg caller’s name, Song Anchen.

Ye Tian Ming peeked at at the mobile phone, luaghed ot loud while standing up. “It’s Song Anchen”

She suspiciously answered the phone, Somg Anchen’s muffled voice came through, “come to my room”

Yisheng went to the drawing room, saw no trace of Song Anchen. She hesitated for while  knocking his door before going in, only to see Song Anchen stting on the bed smiling foolishly at her, unknowingly or so she too smiled. As such, the two reconciled just like that…

They kept contact through the phones, oftenly texting to each other when they’re bored, on the other hand they were both having fun like this. Actually they were both, awfully happy.Sometime it was just a sentence like “hey” which was replied by “en!”, it was such a waste of time and money.

(Wow! People in love are sooo stupid, really such waste of money *sigh~*)

And so, on the second test Song Anchen scored in 70s for all three science subjects for the first time. Since he’s normally the one get full marks, this caught teacher’s attention. Still it was only after month of tutoring for Lin Ruohan. Since the tutoring plan made less progress than before, teacher strated to feel anxious and finally he decide to withdraw the plan.

Since it felt weird with the score difference, So Yisheng asked him if it was deliberate?

Song Anchen only smiled but didn’t answer her.

Their relatonship didn’t stay so well much longer, since Lin Ruohan stood in the middle. Why couldn’t they cast her aside? Because Lin Ruohan’s mother and Song Anchen father got married, therefore it was unlikely for Song Anchen to disregard his new younger sister.

In the end Lin Ruohan moved in to Song Anchen’s home, they lived under the same roof. After then, everytime she went there was three people, making her the third.

He jin once laughed at her, saying she was the unwanted third guest. Yisheng too strated to see as the others and the more she felt that she really is the unwanted third guest.

She was not beautiful like Lin Ruohan, when they were walking, she was always aside of the crowd and while they rode the bicycle, she was in the back silenly following them as they intimately rode together in front. She started to feel she seemed unnecessary in there.

Aterwards, she started go one step ahead of them, whether it’s going to school or eating lunch she did it faster. Going home ahter school was the same, one step ahead. Unexepectedly she got used to it.

“Yisheng, what’s up with you these days?” later Song Anchen texted her.

But she didn’t reply, no matter how many text massages came in later, she never reply with another word.

About the Translations

For those who are or will be reading this post,

First, I am not a veteran translator, in fact this is my first time translating something. So I may be a little slow and may make some mistakes, so please bear with it.

Second, I only do this to improve my Chinese skills, so don’t expect me to be a devoted translator.

Third, I’m still a student, so I may go on hiatus on my exam periods.

Fourth, I’ll be mainly translating this book, which is If I Have You, What More Could I Ask For In This Life? (如若有你一生何求 [医生,一生何求]) – by Jin Zhu (锦竹). And I plan on translating another novel which is, Chong Zi (重紫)– by Shu Ke (蜀客), this is only secondary.

Fifth, If I don’t die suddenly or have some unfortunate accident (which I plan not to), I’ll be translating this till the end.

And Lastly, I plan on posting one chapter of my main translation on each Sunday. And as for the second one that’ll be much slower.

That’s all, Enjoy!
